Jewel-in-a-Box, founded in 1998, is a new concept that came alive after a mature and deep reflection and more than 40 years of experience in the jewellery business. The company behind this concept is J.KATZ Jewellers, a very distinguished jeweller house established in 1959 in Antwerp, capital of diamonds. Mr. Jo Katz, whose family is a pioneer in jewelry business in Antwerp, attributes his worldwide success on his passion for the trade and his excellent business relations with the local diamond traders. J. KATZ Jewellers is associated with the notions of trust and seriousness in the business. 1993 marked a turning point for the family Katz. After 3 years of training in Italy, Emmanuel, the oldest son, came back with new ideas and projects that were quite innovative. Father and son decided to sit together and discussed what they thought was missing in the jewellery market; particularly on second-hand jewellery.
Buying jewelry from private hands is always a risky business and to offer a guarantee with the jewel was inexistent before. Buying from an auction house could easily make an item overpriced if there is a lot of interested bidders. When it comes to the quality of the jewel and its price, trust is required when buying from common second-hand jewellery shops as the shopowners have to make profit and to add value-added tax (VAT). The 40 years of experience in the business have allowed the family Katz to come out with solutions without harming their competitors.
